Alcohol is related to a severe problem in children called fetal alcohol effects. Women who average over two glasses of wine often during their pregnancy are more likely to give birth to children with slight anomalies, growth deficiency, mental problems, down’s symptoms, and strange behaviour.

Women who wish to consume a small amount can have it without worrying about the harmful consequences. Consumption of red wine is very beneficial for girls as it also protects them from breast cancer. For those who have a drinking history, then it is advisable to refrain from drinking completely.

Before having wine it is important that you talk to your doctor and take their advice for doing so. Chances are that your physician may request that you abstain from it completely. Under such circumstances it’s much better to listen to a doctor to be able to avoid any complication or birth defects. If you see a change in your behavior or the small amount gets bigger, you should immediately stop swallowing wine.

So as you can see from the above article, drinking small amount of wine weekly in 2nd and 3rd trimester is OK but you have to take care that it’s little amounts do not turn into an addiction or huge amounts taken daily as then it can be harmful to your baby.
