Keep Ants Out

Ants are persistent and have a uncanny ability to detect scents, even micro-smells from an area. Leaving behind powerful pheromone trails, they mark a path for others to pick up on and follow.

It is hard to avoid them altogether as they’re always around and searching for an opportunity to seize food resources. In desperation, some people resort to chemical pesticides that keep ants away, but these methods pose a health hazard, particularly for children and pets.Ants, Close-Up, Insects, Little, Tiny

Cinnamon

Have you ever wondered how so many of them find a way to your food all at one time? After the “forager ant” locates the food, they mark out a path that leads others in precisely the identical path to the origin of food. With each trip, the scent trails are strengthened.

Cinnamon powder works because the smell of it throws off the pheromone trails and impacts their ability to navigate. By sprinkling cinnamon powder anywhere you notice signs of them entering or moving through the home, like around the garbage can or corners of windows, you cut off their lines of communication! This is a homemade ant pest control methodology, but somewhat tricky to keep up with the small critters.

Vinegar and water

Vinegar is another common household ingredient which works by disrupting pheromone trails. Blend together 1 portion of white vinegar and one part of water and pour it into a spray bottle. Apply your vinegar mixture at the entrances to your home, near plumbing, dust bins, behind the oven or anywhere you expect them to enter your home.

The vinegar mix will evaporate in about a day and will require reapplication, but it’s a great natural solution to an ant pest control issue.

Baking Soda

Baking soda disrupts a ant’s natural chemistry when ingested. To make them take back to their nest, combine it with equal parts of powdered sugar. Pour the mixture into a shallow container and set it near the pantry or cabinets or where they go into or traverse your dwelling. Once introduced into the nest as a food source, their population will probably dwindle.

Chalk

It’s a fact that rodents will not cross a chalk line! This substance disrupts their odor mark, which they use to communicate with the other members of the colony. Draw or put a line of chalk between their points of entrance and their preferred food source and they will be unable to reach their destination.

Aspartame

Aspartame, also popularly known by the brand names NutraSweet or Equal, is readily available just about everywhere. As it functions as a neurotoxin whenever they eat it, it disturbs their perceptions and they soon perish.

If you know where their nest is, sprinkle the contents of one packet round the entrance to a mound and lightly mist to moisten it. They’ll collect and disperse the aspartame.

It seems simple to keep away ants without using harsh chemicals, provided that one is very diligent and catches the issue quite early. A certain method is to call in a skilled and environmentally friendly pest control. Many control companies are using approaches and products that are effective, minus the unnecessary usage of undesirable chemicals.
